Chair of the Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages


Dr. Laura L. Franklin is a Professor of French at Northern Virginia Community College in Alexandria, Virginia.  She is the current Chair of the Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages She was awarded in 2003 the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia Outstanding Faculty award. She is Editor of the World Languages collection of the Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching (MERLOT). Research interests Of Dr. Franklin have included the internationalization of the curriculum, the affordances of the Open Educational Resource Movement, the role of community colleges in World Languages nationwide, and the growing need for the expansion of critical language programs.

Geneviève Puiségur

Geneviève Puiségur-Pouchin, President of Apréli@ (Association for the Promotion of African Open Educational Resources), director of the initiative Reli@ (Open Educational Resources for African teachers)

Geneviève Puiségur- Pouchin chairs the association Apreli@ with Aïcha Bah Diallo, Special Adviser to the Prime Minister of Guinea and Africa adviser of the Director General of UNESCO. She was previously a professor of mathematics and a teacher trainer in Côte d’Ivoire until 1991, then a professor of mathematics, an union leader and a responsible of The House of Teachers and life-long education’ in France. Since 2007, she directs the initiative Reli@, which held in Dakar, in October 2008, its first workshop, sponsored by the french Minister of Education, and assisted by the ADEA. This workshop helped to lay the foundations for the 1st Pan-African network of OER’s producers , and has issued a call for the production of pan-African free digital educational resources. In February 2009, he was followed by a second workshop at the FASTEF (ex ENS) in Dakar, to train the trainers in the use of TNI (Table Digital Interactive), used in Reli@ as a tool for collaborative and interactive training of teachers. The initiative is conducted in collaboration with the CVA / UNESCO (African Virtual Campus), the FASTEF and the Town Hall Sacré Coeur / Mermoz of Dakar. It was presented at the workshop BREDA / MAN / OIF AUF-held in March 2009 in Dakar, at the Salon Solutions Linux Paris on 1st April , at the Salon of the New City in Vincennes, on April the 9th and will be present at a meeting of CONFEMEN from 4 to 7 May in Dakar, then at e learning Africa 2009, May 28 and 29 in Dakar , and at the World Free Software Meeting in Nantes on July the 9th.

Moustapha Diouf

Alioune Moustapha Diouf, University Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD) & FASTEF (Faculty of Science and Technologies of Education and Training) - Senegal, West africa

Alioune Moustapha DIOUF is general inspector of education in charge of ICT at the Ministry of Education of Senegal, teacher-researcher at  Fastef (Faculty of Science and Technologies of Education and training) at  the University Cheikh Anta Diop of Dakar ( UCAD). He is also a tutor of distance learning in (1)- the  " Uticef” master's degree (“Use of Information technologies and Communication in Education and Training”) at the University Louis Pasteur of Strasbourg in France ; (2) the “Psgse” master’s degree ( " Sector-based Policies and Management of the educational Systems”) of Fastef and the “Pole de Dakar”. (3)He is member of the Committee the mission of which is to set up an institute of distance learning in Fastef - (4) Alioune represents Senegal as Senior Researcher of tne Panaf Project  (Pan-African Research Agenda on the educational integration of ICT) which includes 12 French-speaking, English-speaking and Portuguese-speaking countries ;(5) He is Coordinator of the UCAD’s team of  Acep (African capacity Enhancement Program) of the African virtual University (AVU). He serves as Coordinator in Senegal and co-designer of the LYVA Project ( African Virtual Secondary school) including three countries of the South (Morocco, Maurinania, Senegal), financed by the “Fonds Francophone des Inforoutes”( FFI). He was also main researcher in two researches of Ernwaca (Educational Research Network for West and Central Africa) on educational integration of ICT in West  and Central Africa.

Jibril Touzi

 

Jibril TOUZI - Training Officer - University agency of French-speaking (AUF) – Bujumbura, Burundi

Jibril completed a Master in Information Systems (domain of Multimedia and Internet) in 2006 from the University of Picardie Jules Verne (France), and a Master in Business Administration in 2005 from the University of Douala (Cameroon). He worked for several years in applications development, including web applications. Passionate by ICT and Free Software, he specialized itself in their contributions to the development of education in Africa. He led several teachers training on e-Learning in Africa. He is particularly interested in the use of the wiki technology for the development of Open Educational Resources. He is the FLOSS4Edu (Free / Libre Open Source Software for Education) Francophone coordinator ; since May 2008 he is working at the University agency of French-speaking (AUF) as Trainings Officer in Bujumbura (Burundi), where he is involved primarily in the IFADEM initiative (Francophone Initiative of distance training of teachers) and distance learning courses supported by the AUF.

Jinha
Arif Jinha

Arif Jinha is an M.A. student at the School of International Development and Global Studies, University of Ottawa. 

Arif is currently working on his M.A. thesis under Canada Research Chair Dr. Michael Geist and in collaboration with Dr. Moustapha Diack. The research drafting process is accessible on wikieducator under the title ‘Learning and Knowledge in the 21st Century - The Development Equation'.  The model positions the university and networked partnerships at a critical juncture in development today; particularly in the context of the communications revolution and the digital and access to knowledge divides.  Arif's career in international issues began in his first week as a Nursing student in September, 2001.  The earth-shattering events led to strong relationships and student-led advocacy forged across the Faculties of Health Sciences and Medicine around interest in global health and curriculum internationalization.  Arif's initiative allowed him to work under the mentorship of Canadian leaders in international health, and to play a lead role in the development of two interprofessional global health courses; one seminar-based and the other a summer practicum abroad through offered through university networks and partnerships.  An Honour’s graduate in Psychology with training in Philosophy, Arif is an experienced public speaker and moderator, and has worked as a project manager, health worker, musician and was one-time nominated candidate running for a seat in the Parliament of Canada.

Michele

Michele Dean - Open University (UK)

Michèle Deane is a senior lecturer at the Open University (UK) . She is currently foreign languages subject leader for a very innovative open and distance learning flexible initial teacher training programme that uses web-based resources and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as a teaching tool. In 2007 she became a member of the Teacher Education in Sub-Saharan Africa (TESSA) research and development programme team at the Open University (UK). Her role in the team is to oversee the development of resources in French for the TESSA OER that was created by African teacher trainers, researches and teachers. Prior to joining the Open University, she had been working in the education sector as a secondary school teacher when she pioneered the use of information technology for the teaching of foreign languages in the classroom, as an advisory teacher and as a teacher trainer.

Moustapha Diack

Moustapha Diack (Southern University System, Baton Rouge & Director of MERLOT Africa Network) -Baton Rouge - LA – USA

Biography: Diack is professor of Science/Mathematics education at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. His specialty is in e-learning Technology and Design. He currently serves as President of the LA Academy of Science (LAS) and Director of the MERLOT Africa Network (MAN). He represents the State of Louisiana to MERLOT and the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) Technology Cooperative. He is a member of the eLearning Africa Conference Advisory and is founding Chair of the Pan-African Fora on Open Education Resources (OER) and Open Access (OA), that are held as part of the eLA Conference. His research interests are in the areas of (a) Open Access and Open Education, (b) Assessment of Web 2.0 Technologies and Virtual Communities of Practice (VCP); (c) Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) design and assessment of VLEs in training, teaching and learning.
